Second Life Workshop:
An introduction, showing Hamilton and Colgate land in Second Life, flying, the inventory, interacting with other avatars, rezzing and interacting with objects, using the inventory, searching, and teleporting. During Lunch:
- Welcome and framing of Second Life in Academia - Real life industry but our focus is on the mostly free aspects (now that our institutions have land) and the potential for learning experiences in Academia.
- Sistine Chapel & Van Gough Museum - Perspectives on real & virtual art experiences, comparison of SL to other formats
- Art Medicco from Williams College - Potential for interactions and novel learning experiences
- Current SL interactions and learning goals
- 10 minutes – Chemistry with Camille Jones, existing SL coursework at Hamilton College
- 5 minutes – Language and Culture interactions in SL
- 15 minutes – Discussions about Aids

After Lunch Hands-on:
- Getting started with Second Life. Carl demos activities while the rest of us pair up with participants and assist them in
- step by step walk through with participants
- registering to use SL,
- through orientation island (not orienting there – but since they will be sent directly to it upon registration, we will assist by teleporting everyone from orientation island to either Hamilton or Colgate
- Set Hamilton or Colgate as ‘Home” island and go over how to teleport home
- Notecard of SLURL’s in a box – show everyone how to “touch” an object, how to ‘accept” notecard where to put items accepted and how to find them, inventory,etc.
- Show how to “friend” people, how to add information to another avatar’s profile, how to give objects to another avatar. Freebie items to give as gifts when people “friend” each other.
- Send a postcard of home SLURL, and also email yourself your SL avatar name and password
