Second Life Workshop:

An introduction, showing Hamilton and Colgate land in Second Life, flying, the inventory, interacting with other avatars, rezzing and interacting with objects, using the inventory, searching, and teleporting. During Lunch:

  1. Welcome and framing of Second Life in Academia - Real life industry but our focus is on the mostly free aspects (now that our institutions have land) and the potential for learning experiences in Academia.  
  2. Sistine Chapel & Van Gough Museum - Perspectives on real & virtual art experiences, comparison of SL to other formats
  3. Art Medicco from Williams College - Potential for interactions and novel learning experiences
  4. Current SL interactions and learning goals
    • 10 minutes – Chemistry with Camille Jones, existing SL coursework at Hamilton College
    • 5 minutes – Language and Culture interactions in SL
    • 15 minutes – Discussions about Aids

After Lunch Hands-on:

  1. Getting started with Second Life.  Carl demos activities while the rest of us pair up with participants and assist them in
2.   Building demo in SL. Krista demos how to build a balloon and Carl will give everyone the script to make it fly.   The rest of us will pair up with participants to assist them in building.
